As the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Invenio LLP, Ed Gehres leverages over 25 years of experience as an advocate, trial attorney, and organizational leader with a distinct focus on the litigation finance landscape. Ed embarked on his career as a political organizer and strategist, championing civil liberties and education causes. His journey led him to trial practice and litigation strategy, motivated by a profound desire to drive change on multiple fronts – within the courts, legislative arenas, and public affairs strategies.
Ed brings a unique 360 degree view of the marketplace to his work in litigation finance. He has been a litigator on both sides, a transactional lawyer for all sides, and an advisor on distressed situations and in preparing firms for large-scale debt capital raises. Early in his career he was a defense lawyer on large mass tort and complex commercial cases. He has represented plaintiffs in mass torts, civil rights, clergy abuse, ESG-related claims, and large-scale commercial matters. In litigation finance transactions, he led the global legal department of an investment platform with multiple litigation finance investments in law firms, single claims, medical liens, pre-settlement funding, and claims processing businesses. At Invenio LLP, Ed’s work is focused on borrower-side representations.
Since Invenio LLP was founded in January of 2022, the firm has advised on nearly $500 million in credit transactions involving legal assets and has developed an emerging practice involving alternative business structures. This work is all closely aligned with the firm’s vision is to level the playing field in civil litigation by working with plaintiffs who need relief, the lawyers who wage the fight, and the investors who can provide crucial funding to make the litigation possible.
