Tom Baker is the William Maul Measey Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is on the faculty of the Carey Law School and the Wharton School of Business. Tom’s Covid Coverage Litigation Tracker is the definitive source of information about U.S. Covid-related insurance litigation. Assembling that unique resource introduced him in a very practical way to litigation finance. Much of Tom’s research has focused on the original litigation finance business: liability insurance.
Tom teaches a seminar on litigation finance for law and business students at Penn that features guest speakers from across the industry. He served as the Reporter for the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance. From 1997 to 2008 he was the inaugural Connecticut Mutual Professor and Director of the Insurance Law Center at the University of Connecticut. Outside of his academic work, Tom consults with law firms and investment funds and serves as an expert witness and arbitrator in insurance-related matters. Tom is a co-founder of Picwell, which uses big data and behavioral economics to build benefits decision support tools. His B.A. and J.D. are from Harvard University.
